Weddings can be stressful but when it comes down to it, it is those small personal details that make it so special. Mary and Peter certainly knew that as they added so many homages to loved ones throughout their wedding day at Huntington Country Club. 

During the father-daughter dance, Mary surprised her father with the song they danced to. Growing up, the two would always watch the movie “Three Men and a Baby” in which the three men sing “Good Night Sweetheart” to the baby. When Mary was a child, her father would sing her this song so it was only fitting that played as their father-daughter dance song. He sang the entire song to her as they swayed on the dance floor. 

As for Peter’s dance with his mother, they danced to the song “Misty”. Peter’s late father whom they lost to leukemia, plays the saxophone in it. Having the groom and his mother dance to his song was incredibly touching and brought a tear to nearly everyone’s eyes. To top it all off, the bridal party also entered to the song “Saint Thomas”, another one in which his father plays the saxophone. 

Continuing with the special moments, the couple found 2 points extraordinarily touching. One is that there were many people who couldn’t come to the reception, but still showed up to the ceremony to watch the pair get married. It meant the world to them. The other was when the couple had the chance to sneak away with us on a golf cart for some pictures. They appreciated the alone time during their cocktail hour and even got to cool down. 

One of the many fun things couples choose to do at weddings is personalizing a lot of the little knick-knacks. Mary and Peter took part in this and had their own trivia cocktail napkins, matches and cigars, cake monogram, signature drinks, and a photo booth!

You’re probably wondering how this amazing couple met. Well, in the summer of 2013, they both signed up for Match. Mary recalls signing up on a Sunday in August and had a message only 2 days later from Peter. Their profiles matched so well, especially on the things they felt were most important, like wanting to meet someone 0 miles from Huntington. Email after email, the two hit it off and felt it was time to meet in person. So, Mary and Peter met for drinks at Honu but in the end, they found themselves walking around Huntington Village for hours just talking and getting to know one another. 

Four years later, Peter got down on one knee in their home. Mary doesn’t remember what he said but remembers crying and Peter shaking. “In that moment 4 years of memories came down to that one moment where we made the commitment to become husband and wife.” 

They wanted to keep everything simple and classy for their big day at Huntington Country Club. They stuck with whites, blues, and navy. The bouquets, centerpieces, altar flowers, and cake topper were all blue hydrangeas from Main Street Nursery. Blue hydrangeas happen to be Mary’s favorite flower so that had to include them. They were even the theme for her bridal shower! 

The groom wore a navy suit and a red tie from J. Hilburn. Mary loves how her man looks in a navy suit so they knew it was the color they were going to go with. Plus, it matched the color scheme! To stand out from his groomsmen in the same suit, Peter wore a shade or two darker and added a vest with paisley back to spice it up! 

The bride looking stunning in a traditional aline gown. When she originally found her dress, it was way too poofy and pelted for her liking. So, she had a dressmaker remake the skirt and did away with the poof. She finished it off with a veil, pearls, and a half-up-half-down hairstyle. 

If Peter and Mary had to offer any advice it would be the following: “Don’t sweat the small stuff. We fought over our entrance song but as we went out to it we both looked at each other and laughed because in the moment it didn’t matter as much as we made it sound 5 months prior. Sneak away together at some point and just take a deep breath and smile together.” 

Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Finnegan! We are so happy we had the chance to take part in your Huntington Country Club wedding!
