After graduating from college in May 2014, Nicole was excited to be starting her “adult” life in New York City. She had just gotten a job in an accounting firm and was looking forward to the single life in the big city. Little did she know, in just a few weeks, she would meet John, whom she’d later marry at Gurney’s Montauk Resort. 

John was Nicole’s manager at the time. He coached the company’s softball team, which she had just joined to make some friends. However, Nicole had no interest in John. He was her manager, superior, and not her type. 

The team would play their games in Central Park and when they were over, everyone went to a local bar for some food and beer. This was when Nicole started to get to know John. They started talking and eventually sharing Uber’s home, which made no sense considering they lived on the opposite ends of the city. Yet, this continued for weeks after every game. Eventually, with the help of some liquid courage, Nicole made the first move and kissed John.

It was now six weeks after Nicole moved into the city and she and John were going on their first date. It was the last first date they’d ever go on. 

Four years later, in July 2018, Nicole, John, and a few of their friends headed to the West End of Long Beach for a beach day. The day was like any other. Nicole and their friends sat on the beach while John stayed at the beach house to “work” for a few hours. 

At around 4pm, Nicole got up to use the restroom. Moments later, her friend ran over and knocked on the door telling her that John was on the beach. Nicole didn’t think much of it but thought it was a little odd that her friend had to announce her boyfriend’s arrival. They descended back towards their beach chairs when a plane flew by, pulling along a banner that said “Nicole Roth…Will you marry me?” Nicole looked over to their spot expecting it all to be a joke. Instead, she found John, dressed up and walking down the boardwalk with roses. 

Later that evening, they got into a limousine for the second surprise of the day. They headed back to the city and were brought to a bar where all of their friends and family were waiting to celebrate! 

Nicole and John’s plan for their wedding at Gurney’s Montauk Resort was not to impress people with lavish centerpieces and proper glassware. Rather, they wanted to create a feeling. In fact, that’s the advice they’d like to offer to future couples. “Don’t get sucked into the minor details while planning, focus on what is remembered, a FEELING. No one gets the feels over a centerpiece – get them on the dance floor and let them enjoy a good meal.” 

This laidback wedding at Gurney’s Montauk Resort certainly did not lack any important details. They wanted a casual and light yet classy day and that is exactly what they got. For starters, the attire was elegant yet simple. The bridesmaids wore light seafoam green dresses while the groomsmen wore white button-ups and off-white pants. As for the bride, she donned a simple lace gown with an updo and a silver hairpiece. The groom needed to stand out among his closest friends so he added a blue vest and matched it with blue pants. His white shoes made him look clean-cut (along with his fresh haircut!) 

Before the ceremony, Nicole and John placed buckets outside filled with Montauk beer and koozies that said: “John & Nicole 9.16.19 MONTAUK” on the front and “Cheers to many years & cold beers” on the back. 

During the ceremony, their guests practically melted when John walked down the aisle with their dog. It set the tone for the rest of the ceremony as well as the rest of the day. Everyone stood as the stunning bride, accompanied by her father, walked down the aisle. The bride and groom exchanged beautiful vows and said “I do,” John’s favorite part. 

Now, it was time to celebrate in Gurney’s Montauk Resort’s ballroom. The band, Fusion DL, was fantastic. They had all the guests up and dancing the entire time, exactly what Nicole and John wanted. The room was decorated with greenery and a few white flowers and candles. It was very important to them that they kept the “casual” theme going. They wanted the venue to speak for itself in its organic and calm ambiance. 

Despite a bit of rain, Nicole and John’s wedding at Gurney’s Montauk Resort could not have been more perfect. It all went exactly as planned and was just as gorgeous as they envisioned it would be.
