Hold onto your hats folks, we’re taking a trip back to the 1920s! Jacquelyn and Robert tied the knot in the only way you can at The Mansion at Oyster Bay, in style. Their hope was to make this mansion seem like it was their home 100 years ago rather than any other wedding hall.

These high school sweethearts had been dating since the bride was 15 and the groom was 17 until the groom got down on one knee at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The ceremony at The Mansion at Oyster Bay was designed to feel vintage with certain old-school touches like vintage buttons on the table numbers and handmade welcome signs. Their programs were petal fans that not only thanked all their guests for being there, but also with some information about the house. Around the mansion, Jacquelyn and Robert placed family photos like those of their own parents getting married as well as framed quotes about love.

Growing up, Jacquelyn was sure that she was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, so it was only fitting that her wedding shoes were ruby red slippers (heels). She even brought the same ones she wore when she was three years old. To go along with her 1920s theme, Jacquelyn was dressed in a gown that she herself designed. Her beaded back was a one-of-a-kind touch that made this gown, as they say, the bee’s knees. Adding yet another roaring 20s piece, Jacquelyn wore a silver headpiece with inspiration from those of that time period.

As for the floral arrangements, all the flowers were placed on antique bronze candelabras. Jacquelyn and Robert wanted a loose and whimsical aesthetic, almost as if the family had put them together from the garden.

In addition to the 1920s theme, the couple added a few elements of luck. Jacquelyn had a sixpence in her left shoe, symbolizing good luck as well as 1000 paper cranes. 250 of those were set aside for people to bring home to experience their own luck. Lastly, she had a charm in her bouquet from her late father.

At the reception at The Mansion at Oyster Bay, Jacquelyn and Robert, along with all their guests, partied like Gatsby. Their most favorite part was when they entered the ballroom, engulfed by cheers from loved ones as they were announced as Mr and Mrs for the first time. They had a saxophone player and percussionist playing the entire time to keep the party lively, it kept everyone dancing from beginning to end.

If the couple had to lend any advice to future brides and grooms, they’d tell them to stay organized by using lists to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed. “When the day comes, don’t fret over anything that goes wrong- just brush it off your shoulder and deal with it afterward. This is probably one of the last days that you will be the center of attention and at the nexus of all of the love and support of your family and friends on such a happy occasion. It is important to relish in the moments and stop to enjoy them before the night passes you by.”
