As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and we think you’ll agree after you see the amazing photos from Marissa and Jose’s wedding at Chateau La Mer.
This perfect pair met during their first year of veterinary school. During this year, the two became good friends and spent a lot of time together whether it be studying or grabbing something to eat. But, it wasn’t until the start of the second year that they started to date. From then on, they knew they were with the person they were going to marry.
As you can probably assume by the vet school information, Marissa and Jose are big animal lovers. So it only makes sense that they chose to adopt a dog. What didn’t make sense, was adopting a dog two weeks before their most grueling year of vet school. Their new dog, Frankie, had a bunch of medical issues and didn’t get along with their other dog, Helix. Eventually, the new dog found his way into this family, so it only made sense to get him in on the proposal as well.
Frankie was adopted as an adult meaning he had a long backstory which included a little girl that he loved. So, in order to ensure tears during his proposal, Jose decided to make Frankie officially a part of the family. He collected puppy photos of Frankie and put it all together in a book and made a poem out of it.
Jose had planned to get down on one knee in the vet school gardens but when the day soon approached, the forecast was rain. So, Jose had to switch his plans and propose to Marissa at home. Jose said he was giving Marissa a birthday gift two days early but she refused. She wanted to wait until her actual birthday. Jose insisted and Marissa finally obliged as Jose handed her the book. Marissa cried and then he pulled out the ring, only to make her cry a bit harder. Through all the tears she said yes! (side note: it didn’t rain the next day, of course!)
Now let’s get to the good stuff, the wedding day! The couple had personalized a lot of their big day at Chateau La Mer. Marissa and Jose left the proposal book out for people to look at as well as a puzzle of their picture. They gave out owl favors at the end of the night to represent their love of animals.
The couple didn’t use many flowers during the event, only during the ceremony and a bit of baby’s breath on the centerpieces. Marissa and Jose actually made their centerpieces themselves! Made with small trinkets on top of a wooden piece, the pair did a great job.
Marissa and Jose rode into their reception on a yacht. They found it relaxing and a nice moment with just the two of them before all the craziness began. This ride, along with all the dancing, was their most favorite part of their fairytale wedding.
We can’t forget about fashion! The bride was in a form-fitting mermaid lace dress with a lace cathedral veil. Their goal for their big day was classic and elegant so the groom donned a black tuxedo with ivory accessories to match the bride. Both Frankie and Helix wore cute little black tuxes as well.
Marissa had some advice to share with future brides! “We planned the entire wedding ourselves, and our advice to other couples is to get things done in advance so that closer to the day there is not a lot to be done. And also if you are stressing over small details, forget it and move on. Nobody will notice if things didn’t go as planned!”
