The Carltun Wedding: Maureen & Shaun

Maureen Helfers and Shaun Ryan’s elegant wedding took place on December 8th, 2018, at The Carltun. Robert Moses built the Carltun 60 years ago. He was a well-renowned architect from Long Island. The decor of the event space is inspired by Gatsby.

The couple first met at a bar called Crazy Jester, on Thanksgiving Eve in 2013. Shaun proposed 5 years later on the water in Hoboken, NJ. Little did Maureen know, all of their family and friends were waiting back on Long Island to surprise them. Soon, the wedding planning began. Maureen and Shaun chose a black tie for their wedding day. They wanted to look simple, yet elegant. Shaun dressed in a black tux with a black bow tie, and Maureen, in an off the should Rosa Clara lace dress.

The florist did a beautiful job. The theme was burgundy, blush, and white. The bridal bouquet had more burgundy, for contrast, while the bridesmaids had more white. The bouquets stood out beautifully against the burgundy dresses. The centerpieces were also designed with burgundy and blush.

Maureen had baby’s breath lining her up-do, as she walked down the church aisle. The aisle was also decorated with baby’s breath and twinkly lanterns. The reception had an abundance of greenery, and photos from the family’s past marriages, to give it a grand, mansion feeling. There was a piano player in the entrance and a welcome sign on a lantern-lined mirror. The wedding planner, Jordan Matlock, was extremely helpful. She kept the planning on track, had great ideas and awesome connections.

Some advice from the bride:

“I would recommend a planner, especially for the day of, to keep everything moving so you can just enjoy. The day goes by fast, enjoy every minute!”
