A wedding is meant to celebrate the love you and your partner have for one another. And that is exactly what Maggie and Michael did on their wedding day. Filled with love, family, and many special moments, this wedding at Pavilion at Sunken Meadow was one for the books.
The couple had been set up years ago in Fire Island by friends of theirs. They spent their day in bathing suits and sporting the “au natural” look. Mike immediately fell for Maggie but it took her six whole months to agree to go on a date with him. On January 5, 2014, the couple met up at Finley’s, a restaurant in Huntington, for brunch. Not wanting to leave each other, brunch turned into drinks and football which turned into dinner at Samurai, completing a 10-hour date! The two moved in together sometime after and three years later, on January 5, Mike got down on one knee and asked Maggie to marry him.
Most couples look forward to their first look, as this couple did (theirs was great! Check out their video to see), but what really stuck out to them was their best friend officiating the wedding. It added yet another unique and emotional touch to their wedding day.
Maggie and Michael’s ceremony at Pavilion at Sunken Meadow was absolutely stunning. A flower arch was placed in the sand on the beach for them to exchange their vows under. As previously mentioned their best friend officiated the wedding which was just one of so many personal touches the two added to their day. Some stood out while others were subtle.
Maggie, a jewelry maker, had two pins in her bouquet. One was a horseshoe while the other was a turtle. The horseshoe is from an Irish tradition of good luck for your marriage. As for the turtle pin, it came from her late great uncle’s jewelry line. Maggie’s great uncle is who inspired her to go into jewelry and was very important to him. Adding this pin into her bouquet made Maggie feel like he was a part of her wedding day.
Other personal touches included their drama free zone sign, their turtle conservatory donation, eco-friendly straws, family traditional songs, and even the speeches guests made. All the signs were DIY projects as well as the ceremony archway and the poster of the couple by the drama free zone sign. “We really wanted people to feel all of us at this wedding.” But what Maggie enjoyed most of all of these things was the handmade jewelry she gave to those closest with. It let them all know how important they were in their fairytale wedding.
Maggie’s wedding dress was a classic and elegant lace dress from Lovely Bride designed by Made With Love. The lace on the gown was from Australia! Mike’s suit was from Men’s Wearhouse, the nude of his suit was made to match the nude on Maggie’s dress. Maggie wanted all the bridesmaids to feel comfortable in their dresses so she let them pick any style dress they wanted.
Maggie’s advice to future brides? “Enjoy every moment, it’s fleeting. Make sure you stay with your partner the whole day. Try not to separate, the more you’re together, the more you’ll have the same memories of the day and be able to live in that same moment.”
We are so glad we got to be a part of Maggie and Michael’s fairytale wedding at Pavilion at Sunken Meadow. Congrats to the lovely couple!
